Supplies needed to handfeed lovebird

Use Kaytee Exact handfeeding formula which is available at your local pet store and you also need a syringe. If you cant find these in stores then order them online. Handfeeding formula is powder so yes you need to add water.

You can also use RoudyBush handfeeding formula.

Handfeeding formula cost from $5 - $10 depending on size and brand.

Syringe cost from $3 - $6 depending on the size.

How I prepare my handfeeding formula

Step 1: I heat water in microwave for 35 seconds

Step 2: I grab a paper plate and pour some formula powder onto one side

Step 3: I clean the syringe with hot water

Step 4: I pour water onto the powder. The amount of water depends how old the lovebird is. If it gets older you need to make it thicker. If the chick is too young then you need to make it a little watery.

Step 5: I mix powder and water together with a fork for less than 30 seconds

Step 6: I let it sit in the paper plate if its too hot

Step 7: I take the clean syringe and suck up the formula. For me i fill up the syringe.

If your formula is to thick you need to put the formula into the big hole.

Step 8: I am now ready to feed my lovebirds. I also grab paper towel in case of a mess.

****I feed my chick in a small tray with paper towels underneath****

****The hours of feeding is determined by age (not posted yet)****

 Feeding my lovebird chicks

When i feed my lovebird i take them into a small clean tray with paper towel underneath.

They start opening there mouth but sometimes they dont. That means they are not hungry or their just not trained yet.

You need to introduce them to the formula and make them get use to it.

My 3 week old lovebird i fed till her crop was half full and she still wanted more. She has good and easy digestive system so when she eats, she poops.

Remember not to let the syringe with formula inside have air bubbles.

Dont point the syringe straight and toward its mouth. Always point syringe on the side and dont force it in.

Always release the formula slowly, if you do it too fast they will choke and start spitting back out the formula. So that is a waste.

Always wipe the beak clean if their is formula, because it will dry up fast.

Zupreem

I trust and use Zupreem. After the weaning process of my lovebirds i give them Zupreem Veggies. Yes they are pellets and you can find these at your local pet store or online!

These pellets varies from different size according what type of birds you have.

***You can also buy FruitBlend flavor which contains fruit and many more~!

 Weight of baby lovebird

Make sure to check on there weight if they are gaining. If they are losing weight then you need to feed it more or it's probably sick. I never did have a lovebird that lost weight. Right now I have healthy lovebirds that are gaining weight everyday and becoming more healthy each week.
